June 13th will mark the third annual DE Day of Service. This day (or week), is a way for DEs to transform their training and its teachings into community service to empower our members and strengthen local communities.
Haven’t heard of DE Training? Linking our past with credit unions’ present, the DE program brings renewed relevance to the philosophy of “People Helping People.” This unique and transformative training provides critical lessons in cooperative principles, credit union philosophy and international development issues while incorporating challenges credit unions face today. The experience of DE does not end upon receiving our DE diplomas – this is just the start of our DE journey. As graduates return to their respective lives, they work hard to complete a DE project within their credit union, community or the global world.
This day asks DEs across the country (and around the globe) to embrace the DE Day of Service – and work individually or collectively to complete a project to improve the lives of others – and then tell the story. DEs often choose service ideas that support making a difference around the Development Issues (health, housing, hunger, access to credit, savings mobilization, transportation, education, environment, appropriate technology, women in development etc).
You can see what other DEs did last year to make an impact in their communities by clicking here.
If you are a DE, now is a great time to start planning out your projects. We would love to hear about what you are doing on the day or after the fact so that we can document and share with others. If you are sharing on social, please be sure to use the #CUDEDay hashtag so others can see your activity.
Also, make sure to submit a write-up of your project by using this link. We would love to share your great work on our website, so please make sure to submit!
If you have any questions, please contact Chad Helminak at email@example.com. We look forward to hearing about the tremendous impact that DEs will make on the 13th!
